Get Equipped

Students with physical disabilities and limited mobility have a unique set of considerations when they are preparing for college and post-secondary education. This may be the first time the student is living away from guardians and getting the hang of their emerging independence. This webinar will support participants in understanding the college setting, and engaging students in proactive planning to ensure success.

Learning Outcomes

This intermediate level course will support participants to be able to:

  • Recognize essential daily living and self-management skills students with physical disabilities need for successful independent living in college dorms or apartments.

  • Explore technology, adaptive tools, and practical strategies to promote independence and problem-solving in campus settings.

  • Develop approaches for collaborating with families and supporting students in building self-advocacy skills for housing accommodations and personal care needs.

  • Apply techniques for fostering autonomy and preparing students to navigate campus life with confidence and resilience.
